Adding Life to Your Bedroom

Somehow the bedroom doesn’t get the accolades it deserves. Partly because it’s a private space. Most people don’t make the bedroom a priority. Having said that, it should be your sanctuary. As far as design goes, it’s not a space we want to skip. What goes on in there is entirely up to you, our job is simply to make it lovely.

It’s February and we are still hung up on the idea of love. Do you love your linens, your duvet, the accents, the textures? When was the last time you spiced things up in your bedroom [no pun intended]?

Chances are it’s been awhile. Here are our tips to help you take your bedroom from drab to fab!

Let’s start with the basics. If you don’t have a headboard that you love, this is where you should start. Every bed needs a frame, or at least something behind to help distinguish the bed. One of our favorite styles is upholstered. An upholstered headboard adds instant softness to a space. You can keep the room calm buying using a neutral fabric like we did here, or have some fun and do an interesting pattern or bold color!

If you already have a bed that you love, consider new bedding, or in some cases adding something different. We fluffed up this layered look by adding in two pillows that nestle against the euros.

Next, we add texture. A coverlet folded up at the end of the bed, paired with a throw in an entirely different texture breaks up this simple pallet. The result, the flair you’ve been missing.

And finally, but perhaps one of the most important ways to keep things interesting in the bedroom, be creative and un-expecting. Changing out your pillows throughout the year will evolve your space. Take a risk, and use different shapes and sizes.

Here are a few other bedrooms we have designed over the years that are still some of our favs!

The Golden Bear Drive House

The Pennsylvania House

The Stillwater House

Now that we’ve shared some ways to lust over your bedroom, we would love to hear what you do to make your bedroom feel special!

Hello! I love your work and your style (and am hopeful that one day I can use your services!). I wanted to write and inquire about finding out where certain furniture pieces are from- like the first bedroom pictured in this post and the pieces in the The Pennsylvania House master bedroom. Thank you so much for your help!
