The Most Pinteresting Thing of the Week: Trends For Outdoor Spaces

Our Favorite Outdoor Spaces

One of our favorite types of projects is creating beautiful outdoor spaces. Maybe its because locally, we don’t get to spend as much time as we would like enjoying these outdoor living spaces, so when the warm summer months hit us we are all about making these areas beautiful and comfortable. Today we are sharing with you the most recent trends for outdoor spaces.

What Is Trending in Outdoor Living

An outdoor space can turn into your own personal sanctuary, perfect for escaping the every day hustle and bustle. Here are some trends we are inspired by when designing these spaces:

Pool Houses

Although pool houses have been around for years, they are becoming more popular in Minnesota and surrounding areas. As a secondary retreat, we are adding fireplaces, small kitchens, sometimes even a bunk room for families to enjoy. It’s almost like having a cabin in your backyard. The key is keeping the space cozy. This is not where you want to have overly high ceilings or oversized rooms. When designing a pool house we aim to create a comfortable, durable, and beautiful space where our clients can relax and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Outdoor Gathering Spaces

Having a comfortable place to gather or a quiet place to nap is always a bonus when creating an outdoor space. Outdoor sectionals, comfortable seating, bringing the indoors out; all key components in outdoor gathering areas. We are seeing more fireplaces being installed instead of the conventional firepit. Creating a true living room feel outside. We often try to find unique ways to heat the spaces for those crisp summer nights- its amazing how far heat lamps have come! Sometimes hidden, sometimes not, blending function and form in these spaces is key.

Hanging Chairs and Swings

Hanging swings and chairs have been around for a long time, but they are definitely making a come back. Whether they are individual chairs, porch swings, or even daybeds hung from the ceiling, these alternatives to your everyday chair or couch add a playful aesthetic to your outdoor space.

Lounge Areas

Whether your sitting around a pool, overlooking the ocean, or creating a lounge area in your backyard where you can relax and watch the kids play, chaise lounges are an outdoor piece we use often to add comfortable seating to an outdoor space. There are so many fun options out there these days, and can be used in such unique ways.
