Celebrating the 4th With Your Friends and Family

I can honestly say the 4th of July is my favorite holiday of the year. Something about the warm air, casual atmosphere, and lack of pressure to have everything perfect. The holiday allows us to take a step back and really enjoy our friends and family!

Throwing a 4th of July Party

By using simple linens, fresh flowers, and a few festive decorations, you can pull a 4th of July party together in a short amount of time. Favorite place to get fresh flowers quick? Trader Joes and Whole Foods. Go on a Saturday morning, early. Typically their flower bins are freshly stocked and if you get their early you will  be able to pick from the best! We also visit our local farmers market to get fresh flowers, but Trader Joes and Whole Foods will have flowers that last all week.

For the food, stick to finger foods and things you can eat with your hands. Fresh vegetables and fruits, hamburgers, hot dogs; people crave this type of food in the summer so take full advantage of the simple menu! Top it off with your local favorite bakery for a sweet dessert at the end… one of our favorites is Amy’s Cupcake Shoppe in Downtown Hopkins. So delicious and the nicest people to work with! They made these festive cupcakes for us that I love. Not too cheesy with american flags all over them, but color coordinated, with delicious fruit on top to help add to the festive decor.

Entertaining the Kids

As mother’s, we are always looking for ways to entertain the kids. We kept it simple this year with fun lawn games, a picnic with all their favorite foods, and sparklers, entertaining them for hours! Being outside enjoying the beautiful weather and letting the kids play, its a win win for us moms.

Our trick for a stress free 4th of July party? Pack a bag with the “just in cases”… sun screen, extra change of clothes for the kids, an indoor activity in case the weather changes (coloring book, ipad, etc) and don’t forget a cute hostess gift like a beautiful bottle of rosé.

How cute is this bag from Great Lakes Northern Outfitters? We just discovered this company and they have some of the cutest “up north” gear!

We hope you all have the best 4th of July celebrating with your friends and family! Happy Birthday America 😉
