Project Reveal: A St. Paul New Construction Home

The Scheffer House Reveal

We are so excited to share another project reveal with you today! Our latest project with SD Custom Homes is this beautiful 2 story St. Paul new construction home.

We are lucky to live in an area where so many different styles of homes exist. New, old, traditional, modern, Minnesota really has an eclectic mix. As much as we love new construction, there is something so charming about the small vintage homes of St. Paul. When we get a chance to marry the two, we take major responsibility to honor the classic style of the neighborhood while bringing modern amenities and style to a new home.

For us, especially on these homes… it all starts with the exterior. I always want to make sure that when you approach the outside of a house, it begins to tell the story of what’s inside.  The architecture should speak to the finishes, and the finishes to the decor. One of the reasons we love working with SD Custom Homes is their attention to detail and their desire to preserve the integrity of these neighborhoods. This house became the perfect combination of traditional with a fresh perspective.

Exterior

The blue and white color combo on the exterior, paired with the stained brackets, ties perfectly into the colorful street its on. It’s very typical to see homes in this area with multiple colors incorporated into the exterior, but I love how we simplified it with the two colors.

Office

When you walk into the front door the layout of the house is very true to the style of this home with office on one side and formal dining on the other. We paneled the walls in this room and treated the trim and walls all as one painting the entire room a soft gray. Adding a simple brass semi-flushmount added just enough warmth to keep this room feeling cozy and timeless.

Dining Room

One of my favorite rooms in the house is the dining room. Carrying the paneling into this room, the oversized windows allow so much beautiful sunlight to pour in this room feels as inviting in the morning as it does in the evening. A simple but classic chandelier was the perfect piece to complete the space.

Kitchen

We wanted to keep the kitchen light and airy, but not go too modern or farmhouse feeling. The fun shaped pendants over the island tied the black honed granite countertops in and added balance to the space.

Let’s talk about the wood floors for a moment. We have been all about the natural stained white oak floors lately {I have them in my house!} but sometimes they can feel very farmhouse. It was fun to combine them with a more traditional surrounding and see that they can really be taken a different direction. What I love about this color of floor is the lightness it brings, but also how functional they are. They are probably the best color for hiding scratches, and they also hide dust and dirt. It’s a win win with these floors!

Great Room

Open to the kitchen, we kept this room simple with a white brick surround and traditional mantle. Adding our touch of pink made this great room feminine, fresh, and inviting.

Powder Bathroom

Since there are quite a few light and somewhat feminine spaces in the house, we wanted to add a masculine touch in this room. The menswear plaid, coupled with the scalloped white lantern was the perfect play on feminine vs. masculine.

Mudroom

In Minnesota, every home needs a mudroom. Coming off of the garage, having a place to drop coats, boots, the mail, groceries etc is ideal. A simple bench and drop zone is all this space needed to make it beautiful and functional.

Laundry Room

If you follow us on instagram, you probably know our love for wallpaper. You may also know how much I complain about laundry room. This is why we do our best to make laundry room’s in homes the most beautiful they possibly can be. So many of our clients say they don’t care about the laundry room, that no one goes in there, blah blah blah. I take the stance that if you can do the chore you dislike the most in the room you love the most, it makes everything better. I’d say this room does just that.

Thanks for following along with our Scheffer House reveal. This home was a spec home with SD Custom Homes that sold almost immediately after completion. Nothing makes us happier when a family can move in immediately and start enjoying their new home. Let us know what you think of this updated St. Paul home!
