Our Exterior Design Process

First impressions mean everything! Whether it’s trying a restaurant for the first time, a first date, or an interview, the first impression can either make it or break it. It’s so important for us to understand not only our client’s personality, but to be able to show their personality throughout every aspect of designing the house. At the first look of any of our clients’ houses, we want you to be able to get a glimpse into their personality before you even set foot in the house.

It’s all about the curb appeal! But where do you even start? There are a lot of decisions to be made on the exterior of your house. From fitting into the neighborhood to complementing the landscaping to selecting the colors that match your home’s personality, there are so any products to choose from that it can make these decisions seem a little overwhelming!

ColorPlus® “Arctic White” siding.

ColorPlus®

When it comes to James Hardie® siding and trim you have two options that both offer some amazing benefits, it all just depends on our client needs! The first option is James Hardie siding and trim with ColorPlus® Technology, where the paint color is baked-on during the James Hardie manufacturing process. This pre-finished option is ideal as the siding comes ready to install year-round, it provides fantastic color consistency and it comes in a variety of colors for our clients to choose from.

ColorPlus® “Light Mist” siding and “Arctic White” trim.
Another amazing benefit of ColorPlus® Technology is its durability. James Hardie made it their goal to create a finish that will protect against peeling, cracking, chipping and help resist damaging UV rays. This means your siding will stay vibrant for longer and be low-maintenance over the years. They also know how climate can affect exteriors, and created their siding and trim to be Engineered for Climate®. So, whether you live in a city that’s wet and freezing (which us Minnesotans are far too familiar with!) or the heat and humidity, you don’t have to worry about your exterior taking the hit.

Prime

The second option we go to is prime. All James Hardie siding and trim products are available primed and ready for field painting. This is a great choice when we’re looking for a very specific color. After all, we want the exterior to match our client’s personality and sometimes that requires sticking to a very particular design choice! With prime, we are able to select any paint color we want and if we ever need to do paint touch-ups, they’ll blend right in. All James Hardie are Engineered for Climate®, so whether you choose prime or ColorPlus® Technology, you get the benefits of your siding and trim being able to stand up to the elements in your area.

Honestly, you really can’t go wrong with either ColorPlus® or prime! We use both options for our projects and love how each turn out. No matter what you choose, you will get durable and beautiful siding that will last you for many years!

We’ve hoped you enjoyed taking a little behind-the-scenes look into our process when designing the perfect exterior for our clients! Here are some of our favorite exterior examples we’ve completed with James Hardie siding.
