DIY Boxwood Chargers

Winter isn’t usually associated with florals here in Minnesota. Partly because things that are green typically end up getting buried underneath a lot of snow. 😉 But, for our recent Brooke & Lou holiday shoot, we brightened up our idea of winter florals with a beautiful table scape. After posting a sneak peek of these boxwood chargers on our Instagram stories, we received an enormous response from people wanting to know where we got them. The response was even bigger when they found out we actually made them ourselves!

We paired our homemade chargers with a Winter Green Paper Runner, brass accents, and a few other florals from our local flower market for this festive table setting. These chargers are far too beautiful—and easy!—to keep to ourselves; so here’s our step-by-step guide on how to make these yourself at home.

DIY BOXWOOD CHARGER INSTRUCTIONS

1. Head to your local craft store and pick up a round, floral foam ring. We picked ours up at Hobby Lobby, but here is a similar option.

The key is purchase a floral ring instead of a disk. This way, the plate will be able to rest perfectly in it without moving around!

2. Gather bundles of greenery. For this project, we chose boxwood, but you could honestly use any seasonal green of your choice so pick your favorite! A mixture of boxwood and cedar would work perfectly for the holidays as well.

3. Cut your greenery into 3.5 – 4″ pieces and start pushing them into the foam until it feels secure. Repeat this until the ring looks full while making sure it lays flat and won’t get in the way of the plate that goes on top.

4. Rearrange and spruce your leaves to your liking!

Once you like the way it looks, you’re all done! Put a plate on top and get ready for everyone to be shocked when you tell them you made the chargers in an afternoon. For as easy as the craft ends up being, this charger is something that leaves a lasting impression on guests.
