When we started working on this lovely Mendota Heights home, so much progress had already been made. But then there is sometimes a point when our client’s great style and vision for their home gets a little stuck and the execution seem overwhelming. Those last few details that make a home feel soft, comfortable, and complete weren’t flowing for them anymore- so that’s where we stepped in. The beauty of coming into a project with a lot of pieces already in the home, was that we were able to see the space with fresh eyes.
When our client said “I want it to feel cozier” we could see that textural, sisal rug would be a perfect addition. When she said it felt empty, we were able to go shopping for accessories that personalized and filled the room with pops of color and cheerful details. When he said it didn’t feel masculine enough, we knew the perfect shade of leather to introduce with the sky-blue tones.
The front room became a soft and feminine space with high contrast. Going all white- including the brick fireplace, lightened and updated the space in a way that changed the feel of the entire home. Bright white became a staple throughout the rest of the home. It provided the perfect backdrop to all the colors and patterns they love- especially buffalo check and playful florals.
His office needed to be an organized space that kept him focused and inspired. Brass hardware and the perfect shade of gray cabinetry anchored the space so that metals could stand out. We added a comfy window seat bench with cushions in a rust brown and bright blue tone that coordinated with the rest of the home, but also felt more masculine. It’s become a favorite spot for writing lengthy emails or a little pick-me-up nap. Framing some of his work behind his desk is not only personally inspiring, it also reinforces the “why” of why he’s there (He happens to be one of our favorite builders we work with!) There’s nothing as encouraging as seeing what you’ve done while focusing on what you’re doing next.
This small wall became the focus of some extra special accessory love. We found this perfect table to nestle in and then filled it with cheerful accessories and practical baskets. Creating “moments” like this is one of our favorite things to do- it keeps your entire home interesting and makes you want to look at and enjoy this wall that otherwise wouldn’t have gotten much attention!
This powder bath got a pop of the soft and feminine feelings of the rest of the house with this beautiful wallpaper in detailed mirror. We love gazing into it while walking down the hall- it’s the perfect accent room for the rest of the home!
The family room had a great, neutral color palette, but the client wanted some pops of color to keep it cheerful. Like small pieces of art, these navy buffalo check and floral pillows added the final touch of playful femininity. The best part? They’re easily switched out between the seasons so every time you start to get tired of your home, she can pull out new pillows and have an entirely new space!
The master bedroom was calming and bright, but they had struggled to find a bed that continued that feeling. We decided to go with an all upholstered bed with a unique, wooden base. It kept the entire room bright, but added a cozy dimension it seemed to be missing before. Small details, like a blush throw, small side table, and emphasizing the color in the bedding brought this beautiful suite together seamlessly.
Doesn’t this home just make you want to grab a cup of tea and curl up in one of it’s bright and comfy spaces? We just love every corner of it!
