During the cold midwest winter months, our bedrooms can become our own cozy retreat. It is easy to neglect these spaces, since it’s typically a more private and hidden space in our homes. There are two common things we hear that often intimidate our clients about bedroom decorating, and these become the main reasons they seek out our expertise: 1. Pulling together the accessories 2. Selecting the perfect bedding.
We love to select versatile accessories when designing for an entire home. Meaning, when you get tired of looking at the same pieces on your living room mantle, they can easily be swapped out to create a whole new look in your bedroom. By moving the same items to a different space, and configuring them in a new and fresh way, you’ve created an entirely new look. Candles, books, and small vases with a single flower are some of our favorite bedroom accessories.
When it comes to bedding, the key is layers. Lots of them. With that being said, it’s also important to select the right ones. There are several tips and tricks you can do yourself to revive your bedroom, and make it a space you look forward to cozying up with a good book. A trick we love to use, is always starting with a down mattress pad. Even though this piece of bedding isn’t visible to the eye, it creates the full and plush look our clients typically seek. When it comes to the base layers, we love a simple white look. Base layers, meaning, your sheets, pillow covers, and duvet. If you’re someone who often gets bored of the same look, you can easily swap out your accent pillows and coverlet to create a whole new look.
Isn’t it amazing how swapping out a few pillows, adding additional layers of color and material can all create such a different look in a space? It’s such a great way to keep your space fresh and updated.

Great post! What down mattress pad do you recommend? What down insert for the duvet do you recommend?
Hi Natalie! We have a lot of luck with inserts from Down Inc. Otherwise you can't go wrong with Restoration Hardware or the Hotel Collection from Macys! Hope that helps <3
Very soft and comforting. Lovely.
