Gardening With Bria

It’s that time of year again! You’ve waited patiently all winter long and now it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. We sat down with Bria to talk about building her dream garden, her favorite plants, and things she wants to try this year.

My husband Charlie built me my dream garden during COVID – and it’s been such a blessing ever since! I love spending my down time in there, it is truly therapeutic. On one side I plant vegetables with my extra annuals from my planter boxes and then on the other side I do a combination of cut flowers and perennials that I am wanting to take extra care of as they get established.

‘One of the new flowers I planted in my flower beds was alyssum. It added so much color as the vegetables were growing and I love how they poured over the beds!’

This year I am planting more annuals and petunias in the ground. They can handle a lot of sun which is great for my garden as it receives a ton of sun during the summer days. Every year I am planting more and more lilac bushes. I usually stick to the color palette of pink, purple, blue and white.

Bria’s Gardening Tips: Adding the flowers by the vegetables doesn’t just add color and beauty, but it actually helps keep bugs and critters away! Marigolds are great around tomatoes and lavender and salvia are great to put at the base of roses. It has been so fun to learn what works and doesn’t work and every year is a new experiment!

Thank you for the advice. I’ve always been pretty bad at keeping plants alive. I’m continuing to read more on the subject to improve! I’m hoping to also try hydrangeas.
