It feels as though we blinked and suddenly this year flew by – how is it already time to start prepping for the holidays? While it definitely snuck up on us, we’re not complaining. Our team is ready to ring in the season and we’re kicking things off by sharing a festive Thanksgiving tablescape along with a tasty recipe that will have your guests going for seconds.
We know that hosting can be a lot on your plate (no pun intended!) which is why we’re here to help by providing you with a step-by-step guide to building the perfect tablescape. From the tablecloth and place settings down to the center piece we’re sharing all of our tips and tricks for creating that pinterest-worthy moment for your guests. Oh and we can’t forget about dessert… we’ve got that covered too!
Building a Tablescacpe
1. Start with your Base
The best place to start when thinking about your tablescape is to consider your base. Are you wanting to use a tablecloth or do you prefer to showcase your table’s grain and opt for a runner instead? We love both looks for different reasons, however we typically opt for a tablecloth when putting together a more formal look. However, if you’re looking for a nice layered look consider combining a tablecloth and runner.
2. Bring in some Detail
One of our favorite ways to incorporate detail into a tablescape is with a charger. This is a great opportunity to mix in texture and color to create a unique look so don’t be afraid to step out a bit and mix and match. We love these rattan chargers as they can be used year round and provide that textured look we adore.
3. Add your Dishes + Silverware
Once you’ve determined your charger it’s time to decide which plates and dinnerware best suit the setting. We typically go with more neutral dishes and leave the patterns to the linens. For silverware, if your overall look is warm we suggest using gold silverware however if silver is all you have on hand that can easily be worked in too.
4. Mix in your Glassware
When selecting your glassware considering adding a pop of color with either your water or wine glass. While adding a little color here won’t make or break your tablescape, it is a nice way to tie together various hues and add a bit more detail to the overall look. Don’t forget – the wine glass goes on the right hand side!
5. The Final Details
Once you’ve chosen a base and styled your table settings it’s time for the fun part – the final details! This is where we like to add in napkins, florals, candles and other small decorative objects to bring the entire look to life. When selecting your napkins opt for a dainty print or something with a little bit of detail such as a scalloped edge and finish off the look with a napkin ring (or a tied ribbon). For centerpieces, we love starting with a statement vase and complimenting it with pretty florals. When selecting florals, we we like to chose colors that tie back to our tablescape theme but are also seasonally appropriate. Last but not least, add one more layer of detail by incorporating candlestick holders with taper candles or decorative votive vases.
