So, today we’re sharing our playbook for creating beautiful countertop pairings within your home with ease.

While we love a space with personality and style, we know that it can easily go down the path of chaotic or even “messy” looking if not done properly. So, to avoid that, we always recommend choosing one focal point when mixing countertop designs. For example, a few focal point options in a kitchen could be:

– A graphic, defined stone pattern.
– A larger surface area (i.e., an oversized or custom kitchen island).
– Utilizing stone instead of a tile backsplash.

If you’re opting for any of these focal points in your space, we suggest pairing these details with more subtle, accent stone designs that don’t distract or from the showstopper’s moment.

We love a bright, white kitchen more than the next person, but that doesn’t mean you can’t play with contrast. You can still achieve that light and airy aesthetic even when selecting a darker countertop design. In actuality, it will make your lighter selections (i.e., cabinetry, tile, etc.) feel brighter and pop that much more.

We always recommend adding in that warmth or contrast into a space to create the perfect balance – this will ensure your room doesn’t feel “flat” and will stand the test of time. So, try out a darker island countertop with a lighter perimeter countertop (or vice versa) – you won’t regret it!

If you’re wanting to mix in additional materials to provide an alternative texture, like butcher block, we recommend doing so in small doses. For example, in our Miami Project, we added a small butcher block section to the end of our client’s island. This was a functional decision since the Cambria quartz countertops are much easier to clean than a porous butcher block is.

When it comes to any construction selections in your home, it’s good to prioritize your budget in a smart way. We always recommend investing in the main living spaces like the kitchen, dining, living room, bonus entertaining areas, and guest bathrooms first. Not only does this prioritize those high-traffic areas your guests will see, but it increases the overall resale value of your home.
