Ciao Bella!

Today’s blog post is a little bit different then my norm, not because of the content but because of my location. I’m currently practicing my Italian from 30,000 feet in the air! You heard me right; I’m on my way to Rome to surprise my best friend who’s studying abroad! How lucky am I?

With this long 13 hour flight I’ve been thinking a lot about all of the history I’ll be exposed to while in Europe. As an interior designer, I especially can’t wait to see some of the furniture pieces that are original to this area. It’s so interesting for me to watch as period styles evolve and to see how they’re applied in today’s designs.

The Dantesca Chair

Supposedly used for Queen Mary on her wedding day to husband Philip, the Dantesca chair was the most common form of the “x-chair” in the 16th Century.  Today we would see this unique leg design incorporated into cute little stools and benches.

The Regency Chest

Beginning in the 19th Century, the Regency period was where animal feet, brass and gilded gold adornments began…(perhaps we’re currently having a bit of a Regency revival, eh?) Today’s design trends are definitely inspired from this era and I’m not the least bit disappointed! These pieces add the perfect amount of formality to any space.

Love how the clean lines and antique hardware are combined on this piece. It looks great in our office too!

Louis XVI Chair

Now this is a chair we’re all familiar with! The Louis XVI has been a classic choice when it comes to traditional dining and desk chairs since the late 1700’s…you just can’t go wrong!

The Klismos Chair

Originating from Greece and known for it’s unique curved legs and concave back, the Klismos chair is a true greek goddess! Very little has changed on this chair from the original and it can be seen in many designs today.
