A Christmas House: Exterior and Foyer
We are so excited to share with you our Hammel House Christmas. We had a lot of fun this year turning our home into a winter wonderland with unique design touches that aren’t part of your typical Christmas decor. Keeping some areas simple and classic allowed us to play up other areas of the home.
Starting with the exterior, we wanted to keep it simple and classic. A simple wreath on the door, a garland along the railing, and lights along the peaks of the house, now that we have gotten some beautiful fresh snow our house is really feeling like a winter wonderland when you drive up our long driveway!
Front Door Wreath: Use a beautiful ribbon to hang your wreath by. Something people can see as they walk up to your house! I love this black and white striped ribbon. {Designer tip: Use an outdoor command hook (clear) to hang the ribbon by, then tie a bow at the top to hide the hook! Damage free and perfectly finished}
Be open minded when it comes to picking your outdoor wreath. I love using live greenery for the outdoors but it doesn’t always have to be made of pine!
Flower boxes: Don’t forget to add color! I always start with a tall tree in the center and then add texture and color to the base!
For indoors, I prefer artificial greenery. Especially with small children its easier (and cleaner) to use! Not to mention much more cost effective in the long run (first year hurts a little but when you pull out those lovely garlands the next year without having to spend a small fortune again its oh so worth it!) Every year I like to change the color of the ribbon we use, this year I wanted to keep it fresh and neutral, so we went with white 🙂
Stay tuned for more shots of our home this holiday season!

Beautiful! Would love to know where the artificial garland you used is from. Thank you!
Thanks Jessica! The garland was purchased at a local garden store, Gerten's Nurseries in Inver Grove Heights!
