Spring Bookshelf Refresh

Shelf styling & spring – two of our favorite things. Refresh your shelves this season with a few of our styling tips & tricks.

If you’re anything like us, you tell yourself that each new season calls for some fresh home décor. After all, every season has it’s own charm! While some people in your life may not understand this urge… 😉 we certainly do, which is why we’re here to share our styling tips & tricks along with the pieces we’re shopping to give your shelves a little spring refresh!

TIP #1: STICK TO A SOFT AND NEUTRAL PALETTE

When thinking about spring, it’s easy to head straight towards pastels. However, we’re taking a different approach with our spring shelves this year by sticking to a soft and more neutral palette, focusing on pretty whites, creams and subtle touches of color. It’s not only important to keep this in mind when selecting your shelf decor, but also when selecting the books for your shelves, too. Brooke & Lou just added so many new books to their assortment with their Spring Collection – two of our favorites are Architectural Digest and Island Hopping.

Style Tip: If you have hard-cover books, try taking off the paper book cover. More often than not beautiful, simple books are hidden by their covers! Another tip when styling books in your shelves is to face the spine of the book towards the back of the bookshelf so that the whites of the pages are facing outwards – creating that soft palette.

For shelf accents, we’re leaning towards clean pieces with intriguing shapes – such as Brooke & Lou’s marble footed bowl or marble chain. Marble accents are a beautiful way to keep that soft appeal and add a classic touch. Not to mention, these pieces are timeless and can be styled in your shelves throughout the year making them a shelf staple in our opinion.

TIP #2: ACCENT WITH NATURAL TEXTURES

There’s something about spring that speaks to us through natural textures. Perhaps it’s because spring is the first sign of warmer weather or because these natural accents remind us of being on vacation. Either way, we’re always excited to bring out all things cane, wicker and rattan at the first signs of spring. Some of our favorite ways to incorporate these accents are through photo frames, baskets, boxes and vases. As for the natural textures featured in this look we have Brooke & Lou’s Cora Frame, Cane Baskets, Ivory Rope Tray and Cane Vase.

TIP #3: REFRESH YOUR ARTWORK

Another way to freshen up your shelves for spring is to refresh your artwork. We tend to lean towards landscapes (such as the gorgeous Green Hills Landscape) but anything with a soft, light palette will do. If landscapes aren’t quite your style, botanicals and minimalist pieces are another option for adding a soft, spring-y touch to your shelves.

Style Tip: If you’re incorporating photos in your shelves, try switching out your images on a seasonal basis to keep the colors in your photos relevant with the overall palette of your shelves. For example, here we’re going for a soft, neutral look so we chose photos with that same soft color scheme that tie together with the rest of the look!

TIP #4: BRING IN SPRING BLOOMS

Last but not least, our spring shelves aren’t complete without a little touch of some seasonal blooms. When it comes to choosing the right florals for your shelves, start by thinking seasonality and size. What flowers remind you or spring and how much space do you need to fill? In our shelves, we opted for two different florals – the first being a larger scale & maintenance free faux flower (shop these faux blush flower stems here) and the second a dainty, small scale floral that can easily be switched out as needed.

Even though the groundhog saw his shadow, since the arrival of Brooke & Lou’s spring collection, we’re in full spring mode! Cheers to the warmer weather ahead and the spring season!
