A Letter to My Little Girl on Her Birthday

And just like that you’re 2. I’ll write it every year; I now know what they mean when they say time flies when you have kids. It’s been such a fun year with you sweet girl! You certainly have kept us on our toes! Possibly the most independent child I have ever met; you’re determined, smart, and love to make people laugh!

The love you have for your brother is the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen. You certainly don’t put up with anything from him but you LOVE to be around him. As we always say to you, “monkey see monkey do!” It’s incredible to watch you watch him, and mimic everything he does! People think you are a year older because of all you can do, and a lot of that has come from looking up to Louie and wanting to do what he does.

Oh do your Dad and I see ourselves in you! The outgoingness, wanting to say “hi” and “bye” to everyone you walk by. Grabbing a new person’s hand and showing them around your house, making new friends everywhere you go… your Daddy shines in you with your friendliness and spirit. The determination you have, wanting to figure out how to do something on your own. You’re creative, always wanting to do crafts and art, always wanting to help, and now already commenting on how we look when you see us in the morning “cute, mommy” you say… You’re 2 and you notice everything! Sometimes it feels like I have a miniature of myself walking around.

One of my favorite things to do with you is get ready in the morning. If you hear me getting ready, you race into the bathroom and come sit on my lap as I do makeup, to make sure that you are able to pretend to do makeup at the same time. We spend so much fun girl time doing girl stuff, I just love it! You make my heart whole, little girl!

So here’s to the next year of your life. May you be healthy, learn as much as you possibly can, and enjoy your days spending time with your favorite people. Don’t lose your spirit, and take it easy on your big brother! You are a lucky girl to have him to look up to!
