How To Incorporate Vintage Pieces Into Your Décor

Calm, Collected and One-Of-A-Kind Pieces have arrived at Brooke & Lou and we couldn’t adore this collection more.

There’s nothing we love more than incorporating a vintage touch into our projects through beautiful, collected décor and thanks to Brooke & Lou’s Collected Drop, we’ve got just the right pieces to share our tips and tricks for bringing antique accents into your home. Whether you choose to incorporate bookends and trinkets or vases and artwork (or perhaps them all!) these tips are here to help style your vintage treasures to truly give your home a one-of-a-kind touch.

TIP #1: Mix Old with New

To keep things fresh, pair vintage pieces with modern elements such as clean lines and neutral colors. For example, our brass duck book ends are paired with light-colored books so the focus is on the bookends, instead of busy colorful books! By doing this, you’re allowing your vintage pieces to make a statement of their own without getting lost amongst other elements.

TIP #2: COORDINATE SIMILAR STYLES

In order to make things feel intentional, we recommend coordinating similar materials to create groupings – such as these vases. Both of these pieces are ceramic and ivory, however they are from different time periods which allows their unique styles to work together to create a cohesive look. By keeping items in groups, it helps to balance the overall look and please the eye.

TIP #3: KEEP IT SIMPLE

Similar to our first tip, as a rule of thumb, we tend avoid mixing vintage pieces with too much color or prints to allow the pieces to speak for themselves. For artwork in particular, we opt for styling vintage art pieces against white or dark solids for an updated feel. This doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t hang a vintage piece against a printed wallpaper, it’s just easier for the piece to get lost and overwhelm the eye. By going with a solid option, it allows the piece to stand out and feel special.

TIP #4: LAYER IN VINTAGE DETAILS

One of the easiest ways to mix in vintage pieces is layering in small trinkets by stacking them on top of books or placing them in front of art/picture frames. There are so many small treasures to be found when shopping for collected pieces and by simply grounding these smaller items with books, frames or artwork, it gives them purpose without getting lost.

And there you have it – our tips for incorporating vintage pieces into your décor. We hope that this post was helpful and inspired you to consider adding a vintage element or two to your home for a special touch!
